Participants in the Friday, July 31, General Assembly Learning Track “Are We Just Neighbors?” freely opened their minds and hearts to “Feeling the Wounds of the World.”
The follow-up three-hour session on Saturday, Aug. 1 will focus on “Healing the Wounds of the World.”
Through a mostly impromptu, unscripted role-play drama, participants were reminded of the disparate and rampant emotions and realities of injustice – in every community.
Following the drama segment, where “wounds” were identified in each participant’s consciousness and experience, participants chose from six breakout groups that centered discussion on locales and situations throughout the world, including:
Africa
East Asia and the Pacific
Latin America and the Caribbean
Middle East and Europe
Southern Asia
India
In breakout sessions, participants were asked to pinpoint root causes or systems that perpetuate “wounds” by identifying government or even church policies that affect “wounds,” in positive or negative ways.
In each group, participants were asked to explore ways communities were connected – for good or bad purpose and how to help congregations grow in their understanding of the wounds of injustice.
