The Disciples of Christ Historical Society will name a room at a Tennessee Library for a notable figure in Disciples history. With the support of a generous donor, the Historical Society will name a room at the Brentwood Library for 19th century Nashville educator and Disciples minister Philip Slater Fall (1798-1890). Fall was a pioneer in women's education in Nashville in the late 1820s, founded a girl's school and pushed for women's education to be more than just ornamental, and was a champion of public education for all people. Fall also was minister at Vine Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in downtown Nashville.
"Not only did he lead one of our historic congregations throughout the trial of the Civil War, but he fought continuously for the right of every citizen to an excellent education," said Historical Society President Glenn Thomas Carson. Read more.
