Materials can now be downloaded from the Disciples Home Missions website for the Light a Candle for Children - Forty Day Prayer Vigil, which begins Sunday, Sept. 5 and ends on Children's Sabbaths Weekend, Oct. 15-17. The prayer vigil, which started 16 years ago in a Disciples church in Kentucky, helps congregations focus on the needs of children and spiritually prepare for the annual observance of Children's Sabbaths.

"Blessed to be a blessing, Lifting up the Next Generation" is the theme of this year's Children's Sabbath. During the Oct. weekend, congregations are invited to pray, worship, study and be a blessing to all of God's children. The weekend will focus on lifting our nation's 14 million poor children out of poverty so they can fulfill their God-given potential.
