General Assembly Food Drive Will Help Combat Hunger

Last Updated Aug 13, 2009

General AssemblyDisciples and others will do their part to help combat hunger in Indianapolis during next week's General Assembly. Those attending Sunday morning worship service in the community on Aug. 2 are asked to bring canned goods to the service. Those churches will tally the collections of food and report the totals to the volunteer table at the Indiana Convention Center during the Assembly or text or call Brooks Barrick of the Local Arrangements Committee at 317-847-1695.

All attendees at the All-Assembly Concert and Closing Communion later that day at 2 p.m. in the Indiana Convention Center also are being asked to bring canned food items, which will be given to Gleaners Food Bank. "Indiana has over 10 percent unemployment. The loss of so many jobs has impacted our community greatly" said Barrick. "Many food pantries are hurting. This is something important that can be done by local congregations to help out our neighbors in the area."

The food drive is one of many mission events that will take place at General Assembly, Almost 300 people are expected to work with mission activities during the Assembly. More information on mission work at the Assembly.
