Bankruptcy Court Judge Approves Auction Results NBA Announces Winning Bid For 11 Senior Living Facilities Letter from the General Minister and President and the Moderator |
LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MINISTER AND PRESIDENT AND THE MODERATOR November 19, 2004 The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) continues to follow the evolving process of the sale of the 11 senior living facilities owned by the National Benevolent Association (NBA) that were auctioned by court order Thursday, November 18. "The Disciples will watch closely and continue to care about those who are most affected by the sale – the seniors living in the facilities and the employees," said Wm. Chris Hobgood, the General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). "The denomination understands NBA has selected Fortress NBA Acquisition, LLC pending court approval," said Hobgood. " Whoever is finally approved by the Courts, the Disciples hope to work closely with the new owners to help ensure that compassionate care is provided for those who need it most." On Tuesday, Nov. 16, the church filed a motion to enter into the bankruptcy
proceedings of NBA as a party of interest. Both Hobgood and Gillett said the decision to enter the case came after months of internal discussion. While the church has no legal control over the business practices of the NBA, it intends to be proactive about representing the interests of the church's membership in future legal proceedings. In addition to the pending sale of its 11 senior living facilities, NBA has sold or leased three of its six children's ministries. "We care deeply for the people who live and work in these facilities. We will continue to keep everyone in our prayers." ###
