The United Christian Missionary Society
The United Christian Missionary Society (The UCMS) was incorporated
in 1920 as a not-for-profit organization under the laws of the State
of Ohio. Formed as a merger of The American Christian Missionary
Society (1849), The Christian Woman's Board of Mission (1874), and
The Foreign Christian Missionary Society (1875), it carried out
the ministries of these former bodies until restructured in 1968.
The United Christian Missionary Society is now a holding company,
responsible for the investing and managing of assets for the benefit
of the Division or Homeland Ministries
of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Division
of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ).
The United Christian Missionary Society, which has eight Trustees
and four Officers, has no active employees. Four Trustees are nominated
by each of the two Divisions. They are elected by the General Board
of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and serve a term of
four years. In 1993, The UCMS contracted with the Christian Church
Foundation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to perform
the treasury services for the Society.
