O God, during these lazy, hazy crazy days of summer when days are long and hot, and tempers can flare, we pray a special prayer of protection for children at risk. Be with the care givers of those children and bless them with an extra little touch of patience. Be with those children who are bored and at loose ends; blessing them with interesting places to go and things to do. Keep them safe from the flaring tempers of adults and keep them safe from the harm that often comes from having too much idle time. For congregations who minister to children with Vacation Church School programs, or scholarships to camps, we give thanks. Bless the efforts of all who minister in those ways that your children may know of Your love, extended through the Body of Christ.

Just today, God, two young children have died in an overheated car. We remember them and we remember all children who are victims of carelessness. Make us care-ful in their behalf. Give us eyes to see children in danger, and courage to speak up for them.

Surround all your children with your angels and protect them from harm. We pray in the name of Jesus, whom we know to be the Christ, Amen.
