General Assembly Resolutions

(OPERATIONAL BUSINESS ITEM)
CONCERNING THE REORGANIZATION OF GOVERNANCE/ACCOUNTABILITY,
CHURCH TREASURY SERVICES, STEWARDSHIP EDUCATION, AND PROMOTION

WHEREAS, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is committed to the ongoing renewal of its structure for the efficient and effective ministry of Jesus Christ in today's world; and

WHEREAS, the Church Finance Council board and staff, beginning July 2005, engaged in a process to discern the means of most faithfully carrying out its ministry on behalf of the church; and

WHEREAS, the results of the study by the leadership of the Church Finance Council (CFC) were presented to the Executive Committee of the Administrative Committee and forwarded to the Standing Committee on Renewal and Structural Reform; and

WHEREAS, the Standing Committee on Renewal and Structural Reform made its recommendations to the General Board in July of 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Moderator and General Minister and President convened a church-wide Ministry and Money Task Force in response to the work of Church Finance Council and the suggestions of the Standing Committee on Renewal and Structural Reform, to study and forward recommendations to the General Board regarding the proper placement of Governance/Accountability, Treasury Services, Stewardship Education, and Promotion; and

WHEREAS, the General Board received the report of the Ministry and Money Task Force, adopted its suggestions and now forwards them to the General Assembly for approval and implementation;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the General Assembly approve the merger of Church Finance Council, Inc., and its corporate existence into the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Inc., and that the General Minister and President supervise the distribution of the various ministry functions handled by Church Finance Council among the general ministries of the Church as approved by the General Board; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the 2007 General Assembly in Fort Worth, Texas, that the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) celebrates the ministry of the Church Finance Council and its leadership; and

FINALLY, BE IT RESOLVED, that upon the merger of Church Finance Council, Inc. into the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Inc., and the distribution of its ministry functions by the General Minister and President and General Board into appropriate general ministries, that the church's official recognition of the Church Finance Council, Inc., be withdrawn at the effective date of the merger.
