INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- Three new executives recently joined the staffs of the Pension Fund, Homeland Ministries division and Christian Church Foundation.

The Rev. Susan Street Beavers began June 16 as a general representative for the Pension Fund. She is working with Disciples colleges and seminaries and is the liaison with the National Convocation, the Hispanic Caucus and North American Pacific/Asian Disciples.

The Tulsa native most recently served as pastor of Osage Avenue Christian Church, Okmulgee, Okla. Her background also includes several years in the retail and oil industries.

Beavers earned bachelors degrees in chemistry (1981) and Christian education (1992) from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, and Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, respectively. She earned a master of divinity degree in 1995 from Phillips Theological Seminary, Enid, Okla., and has studied at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Okla., and the University of Texas, Austin.

Beavers was ordained in January 1996 at Rogers Heights Christian Church, Tulsa. Susan and her husband, James C. Beavers II, have two children.

Chaplain Danny R. Thompson began Sept. 2 as Homeland Ministries' associate for chaplaincy and specialized ministries.

Since 1993 Thompson has been senior hospital chaplain at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Memorial Hospital-North. The retired military veteran served from 1976-1993 as a United States Air Force chaplain.

Thompson obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1972 from St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Va. The Radford, Va., native earned a master of divinity degree in 1976 from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

He and his wife, Maurica, have two adult sons.

Veteran newspaper reporter Jim Cullumber, Quincy, Ill., began July 25 as director of communications for the Christian Church Foundation.

A 17-year employee of the Quincy Herald-Whig (1980-1997), Cullumber initially worked as a police/social services reporter. He later became a copy editor and in 1992 was named copy desk supervisor.

The Enid, Okla., native has a bachelor of science degree in journalism/administration of justice (1976) from Disciples-related Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo.

An active lay person, Cullumber has been board chairperson and an elder at First Christian Church, Quincy. He also has been active with the diaconate, Sunday school, choir and youth ministry. Jim and his wife, Shari, have two children.
