CHICAGO (DNS) -- U.S. Congressman Jesse L. Jackson Jr. and U.S.
Senator Carol Mosely Braun are slated to highlight a June 18-21
conference of social justice advocates in the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ).
"Campaign for Justice '96" is being organized by the Disciples Justice
ActioncNetwork. The event will be held at Park Manor Christian Church
(Disciples ofcChrist). The Rev. James Demus, III, pastor, was an
organizer of the Million Man March.
General Minister and President Richard L. Hamm will keynote the
Chicago justice event. Numerous other Disciples members will
conduct seminars and workshops. The seminar topics include:
"Bringing Beijing Home," "Should the U.S. Choke Cuban Life?"
and "The Church and Gay Marriage."Other topics are "TV Talk
Shows and Black Men" and "Stand for Children."
Workshop leaders include the Rev. Ben Poage, Kentucky
Appalachian Ministries; Carol Q. Cosby and the Rev. Gerald
Cunningham, Homeland Ministries; the Rev. Allen Harris, Park
Avenue Christian Church, New York City; and Ann Thompson Cook,
Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
