INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A new venture of the General Assembly of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Church) has been named
"MissionFest '97." The festive exposition of mission-in-action
exhibits and presentations will be launched at the 1997 Disciples
biennial gathering in Denver, Colo. July 25-29, 1997.
Every Disciples congregation will be invited to share, through
displays and demonstrations, the vital ways they are giving
life to the Mission Imperatives of the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) for 1996-2000.
Participants are expected to showcase such imperatives-related
efforts as reconciliation, compassion, unity and justice ministries,
while others may demonstrate their outreach to children, youth
and young adults. Examples of congregational renewal,
evangelism and new congregation establishment efforts are
expected as well.
As its name implies, MissionFest '97 is being planned as a
celebratory event. It will take place in a festival park atmosphere
on Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at
the Convention Center in Denver.
The new undertaking expands assembly educational opportunities,
which include workshops, interest groups and forums. Plans
call for simultaneous scheduling of those opportunities and
MissionFest '97 activities to allow these educational events
to complement one another.
MissionFest '97 planners will convey detailed invitations to all
Disciples congregations in a September 1996 mailing.
