ST. LOUIS (DNS) -- Cyrus N. "Russ" White, a manager in the United
Methodist Publishing House (UMPH) in Nashville for the past nine
years, has been named president-designate of the Christian Board
of Publication here.

He will join the 86-year-old publishing house of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) in November and is expected to succeed the
Rev. James C. Suggs as president next year. Suggs will retire after
eight years as CBP president and more than 40 years of service in
the congregational, regional and general manifestations of the church
and among international and ecumenical partners.

White, who has been director of product management for the United
Methodist house for the past four years, previously held positions in
product management, market research, operations and marketing.
He was a marketer for the Nashville Symphony Association for
three years before going to UMPH in 1987.

In his current post, White has led marketing for $24 million in sales of
products of UMPH and outside suppliers. He has directed the work of
product managers for academic, professional and general interest
markets.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in theater arts from Mars Hill
(N.C.) College in 1981 and a master of business administration degree
from Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1986. He is a professional
member of the American Marketing Association.

While he was a member of Nashville's Vine Street Christian Church
for eight years, White served at various times as elder, deacon,
finance committee chairperson and senior high youth sponsor. He
also has been a member of Presbyterian, Episcopal and United
Methodist congregations.

He and his wife, Cynthia Salley White, have a daughter, Sarah. Cynthia
White is a grants administrator for Vanderbilt University.

White's appointment was announced by Thomas C. Wood of
