Sharon Watkins to Address Lexington CommencementLEXINGTON, KY - The General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada, The Rev. Dr. Sharon E. Watkins will give the 2007 commencement address at Lexington Theological Seminary. It will be the 141st gradaution at the Seminary and will be held on Friday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Hall across South Limestone Street from the Seminary. “We are excited about Dr. Watkins speaking to our graduates,” said LTS President R. Robert Cueni. “She is a dynamic speaker who knows the challenges faced by ministers in the twenty-first century.” Dr. Watkins is the seventh person to hold the top leadership position in the Disciples of Christ. She was selected during the denomination’s 2005 General Assembly in Portland Oregon. She is serving a six-year term. Watkins was ordained in 1984 at Hamden, Conn. She has a doctor of ministry degree from Phillips Theological Seminary, a master of divinity from the Yale Divinity School, and a bachelor’s degree in French and Economics from Butler University. As General Minister and President, she is the chief executive officer for the denomination, responsible for overseeing the work of the church’s various structures. She strives to help the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) remain faithful to God’s calling and to do its work effectively and efficiently.
