INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A new children's conference -- designed to explore ways that the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada can best minister to children -- is being planned by the Division of Homeland Ministries.

The Jan. 5-7, 2001, event at Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, will explore ways that Disciples can not only minister to children, but also receive the ministry gifts of children and enter into ministry with children. It will be an Epiphany weekend filled with the voices of children, music, prayer, theological discussions, discovery groups and much, much, more, according to organizers.

"You won't want to miss this opportunity to envision a church that is vibrant and growing because it is responsive to the needs and gifts of children," said the Rev. Kaye Edwards, director of family and children's ministries, Homeland Ministries.

The conference, "Children Welcome!" is the result of the 1999 General Assembly, meeting in Cincinnati. The assembly called on the denomination to proclaim 2000 the year for "Welcoming Each Child in the Name of Jesus." The assembly also asked the denomination's Office of Family and Children's Ministries to help congregations address the concerns of children.

Registration, which begins Sept. 1, is limited to 250 persons. For additional information contact Kaye Edwards, kedwards@dhm.disciples.org, (888) 346-2631, or Office of Family and Children's Ministries, Homeland Ministries, P. O. Box 1986, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Interested persons may also visit the web site at www.childrenwelcome.org.
