INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- The Rev. Richard L. Hamm, general minister and president of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), issued the following statement June 14:

"L. Wayne Stewart resigned as executive director of the Reconciliation program of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) effective June 2, 2000.

"Rev. Stewart became executive director in March 1993. During his seven years of service, the focus of the Reconciliation program was shifted from 'race and poverty' to anti-racism. He has been appreciated particularly for his ability to interpret the issue of racism and its impact on people and institutions. Also, Rev. Stewart was instrumental in the selection of Crossroads Ministries as the primary resource for the church's anti-racism initiative. Our prayers go with him as he seeks God's next call in his journey of ministry."
