Northern California-Nevada Region Holds First Regional NAPAD Event

Saturday, Nov. 18, will be an exciting time for the North American Pacific/Asian Disciples (NAPAD) community in Northern California-Nevada as they gather for their first ever regional event. Planned by the pastors and key lay leaders of the region's NAPAD churches, and supported by regional staff, the goal of the event is to draw this community together for fellowship, support, education, worship, fun, inspiration and great food! It will be held at First Korean Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oakland, Calif.

The one day event will feature two presenters, Geunhee Yu, Executive Pastor for North American Asian Ministries, who will bring the message at the main worship servie as well as talk about the overall ministry of NAPAD, and John Roh, Korean Congregational Service Consultant, who will talk about Asian Disciples ministry today. A welcome will be given by JoAnne Kagawada, who with her husband David, were among the original founders of NAPAD, and Nam Soo Woo, founder of First Korean Christian Church, Oakland, the first NAPAD church in the region. Ben Bohren, Regional Minister-President and Sandhya Jha, Regional Minister for Transformation and Reconcilation, will also bring greetings and share in other leadership.

In addition to each congregation sharing highlights of its current ministry, a combined music team from several of the NAPAD churches, and two worship services, the day will close with a marevelous feast of ethnic foods and cultural dances and music. NAPAD members from non-NAPAD churches will also be participating as well as other regional persons who are deeply appreciative of the gifts of the NAPAD community within the life of the whole region.

NAPAD churches participating will be: First Korean Christian Church of Oakland, Pastor Young In Cho; Revival Christian Church, Sacramento, Pastor Silas Na; Bethel Christian Church, Alameda, Pastor Moon Lee; First Mongolian Christian Church, Oakland, Pastor Ogi Luvsan; New Spring Christian Church, San Jose, Co-Pastors HaiNam and Gloria Seo, and two churches "in formation," Walking Faith Korean-American Christian Church, Sunnyvale, Pastor Kyung-Min Daniel Lee; and House of Prayer, San Jose, Pastor Grace Han. In addition to the Korean and Mongolian churches, members from non-NAPAD churches expected to attend are Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Indian, and Pacific Islander.
