New York Clergy Group organizes relief for Dominican victims of Noel

To all Pastors and Lay Leaders of UCC and Disciples Churches:

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to consider including this effort to help the people of the Dominican Republic in their hour of need within your office's hectic schedule.

The Progressive Voter's Network, together with the United Clergy Federation of Greater New York and the Guardian Angels will be inviting all media to attend this convocation to the general public of the City of New York, where so many Dominicans live, to help our "compatriotas" in in the Dominican Republic.

In the past days, Dominican Republic suffered the effects of Tropical Storm Noel that left behind death, major flooding, desolation and the possibilities of a health crisis in the Caribbean nation. It has been our social commitment for many years to work for peace with justice here and in the Dominican Republic as well as in other Latino countries more than just talking about it, to help one person at a time more than just writing or talking about programs for many.

Therefore, with a humble and sincere spirit of love and cooperation we are appealing to all those that really feel the hurt of their sisters and brothers, to joint us in the efforts to give help to those that really need our help now. On Nov 7, 2007, the Rev. Jose Lantigua and United Clergy Federation of Greater New York, united forces with Curtis Sliwa and the Guardian Angels as well as with most of the Latino elected officials from the Puerto Rican and Dominican community that would like to be part of this initiative to appeal to the community at large to help their sisters and brothers of the Dominican Republic in their hour of need.

We are in continuous communication with high ranking officials from the Dominican government as well as officers from the municipalities of Santo Domingo and San Cristobal, where many families were taken by surprise by this natural disaster and suffered terrible damages to their health, lives and properties. The officials have provided us with a list of the primary articles needed to do immediate intervention. We are hoping, with your help, to gather all the support needed to send at least two or more containers with food, water, medicine and articles of clothing. This can be accomplished with success if we work together setting aside all personal interests or agendas and thinking only of those that now cry for our help.

We thank you in advance for all the help that you will give to this event and to this cause. Do not hesitate to call me, or e-mail me for any additional information that you might need.
