Houston Pastor Will Become New Associate General Minister And Vice-President
"Todd is a proven manager who enjoys finance, is passionate about stewardship as a spiritual discipline, and has pastored a church through a major transformation process," said Sharon E. Watkins, general minister and president of the Christian Church (DOC). "He brings a personality and style that will diversify and enrich our Office of General Minister and President team. We are looking forward to serving with him." Adams graduated with honors from Chapman University in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He earned a master of divinity degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in 1997, and will be awarded a doctor of ministry degree in stewardship and leadership from Wesley Theological Seminary next month. He will work closely with the General Minister and President, helping to oversee the business operations of the office, and partner with Watkins to accomplish responsibilities in implementing the vision, mission, and interpretation of the church as outlined in the Design. "These are indeed exciting times to be actively involved in the mission and ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)," said Adams. "I pray that God's wisdom and strength will guide me, as I respond to God's calling and seek to serve on the church's behalf. I ask that Disciples pray for my family and for the members of Memorial Drive Christian Church in Houston during this time of transition. I look forward to serving with you as we make known the good news of Jesus Christ in the inclusive and unique way that makes us the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)." Before Adams became senior minister at Memorial Drive, he was senior minister of Madison Avenue Christian Church (DOC) in Huntington, W.Va., from 1999-2001, and associate minister of Woodlands Christian Church (DOC) in Woodlands, Texas 1997-1999. He and his wife Kimberly have two children. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has more than 3,700 congregations and 722,800 members in the United States and Canada. **** |
