MARSHALL DUNN BIOGRAPHY

(Indianapolis, Ind. – DNS – Sept. 1, 2007) - Marshall Dunn was born in 1943, the son of Anna and John, a Disciple minister. He was raised in Princeton, W.Va. and Chicago Heights, Ill.  Marshall went to Hiram College in Ohio where he graduated with honors, then received his master of theology and doctor of ministry degrees from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, supported by Disciples Divinity House.

In 1967 he married his wife, Barbara. They have two grown children, Kristen and Eric, and two granddaughters.

For the first five years of his ministry he served Orchard Street Christian Church in Blue Island, Ill. While there he served as the first president of the Illinois-Wisconsin College of Ministers and was trained as a consultant to congregations. In July 1974, he accepted a call to be the senior minister at University Christian Church near the University of Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.

The congregation is noted for its passion for outreach - local and global - its commitment to children and youth, and being a congregation that represents a rich mix of colors and cultures. Dunn was (and still is) very active in ecumenical ministries in the community and county.

During his 31 years at University Christian, Dunn served the regional church by chairing the Commission on Ministry and the Commission on Camp and Conference (Dunn has now spent a year of his life at church camp, still counseling Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) Conference and directing Young Adult Conference each year). He also is trained in Organizational Development through the Mid Atlantic Training Center (MATC).

He has served the general expression of the church for the past six years as a member of the General Board, four years on the Administrative Committee, and three years on the Executive Committee and Finance Committee. He also served on the Mission Council and most recently, the Mission Funding Task Force.

Dunn retired at the end of October 2005, and loves traveling, tennis and spending time with family.
