WOMEN’S ACTION WEB ALLOWS DISCIPLES WOMEN
TO EXPLORE LIFE-CHANGING MINISTRIES

What an eye-opener it was for the women on the 2004 Women’s Action Web (WAW) trip which was arranged through the Office of Disciples Women. Twenty-two women from regions across the nation gathered in Baltimore in early November and traveled through Washington D.C. and Virginia having a life-changing spiritual experience.

WAW was created to allow participants an opportunity to visit successful urban and rural programs that provide service ministries within a community meeting a specific need. The women who attend these trips are then charged to go back to their own regions and create a WAW experience that will allow the women of that community to identify existing ministries or start a program of their own that will make a difference where they live.

While on the 2004 WAW trip, the women walked in the park and talked with the homeless; visited N-street village, a shelter for homeless women who want to change their situation; Martha’s kitchen that feeds more than 3500 hungry people a day; Christ’s House which cares for the homeless who are too well to stay in the hospital and still too ill to go back out on the street; Gateway House which provide housing, care and support for the mentally ill; and so many more places.

The next national WAW event is in 2006. It may be an opportunity for you to see with “new eyes” and learn from successful existing ministries and be the instrument to carry what you have learned back home to share with and encourage others to do the same – connecting one more thread in the Web of ministries that serve in the name of Jesus Christ.
