DISCIPLES WOMEN TO VISIT KENYA

For immediate release
Oct. 22, 2004

Nineteen women representing 12 regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will participate in the 2004 Woman-to-Woman Worldwide (WWW) delegation to Kenya, East Africa, from November 8-23.

Each year Disciples women travel internationally to experience life with their Christian sisters around the world. That country then becomes the following year’s geographic topic of study for Disciples women.

“We try to understand the social, economic, political and spiritual situation in the countries we visit,” said Marie Fleming, a director in the Office of Disciples Women. “We will meet our mission partners, go to the embassy, and talk to a variety of church leaders. Most importantly, we will establish relationships with Christian women in Kenya.”

Woman-to-Woman Worldwide responds to the call for church women to experience solidarity with one another, to affirm the unity of the church in Jesus Christ and to join the common struggle for justice and peace. These international, ecumenical and personal experiences encourage faithful women to identify and support their diverse ministries.

WWW participants go as representatives from their respective regions and return as resource persons for local churches, their region, and Disciples Women’s groups. Eligible women often receive scholarships to help cover the cost of the experience.

Woman-to-Woman Worldwide-Kenya is a program of the International Christian Women’s Fellowship and is coordinated by the Office of Disciples Women, a ministry of Disciples Home Missions) in partnership with the Africa Office of Global Ministries.
