Introducing
a 'Legacy of Faithful Leadership'
Thirty-five
years in the life of our denomination have been led by five faithful
and inspiring individuals, who served as General Ministers and
Presidents of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the
United
States and Canada:
- Dr. A.
Dale Fiers (1968-1973) - 5 years,
- Dr. Kenneth
L. Teegarden (1973-1985) - 12 years,
- Dr. John
O. Humbert (1985-1991) - 6 years,
- Dr. C.
William Nichols (1991-1993) - 2 years, and
- Dr. Richard
L. Hamm (1993-2003) - 10 years.
Filmed interviews
capture the highlight of their lives, ministries, faith journeys,
hopes, and prayers for the Disciples of Christ. This film is a
tribute to these five people for this treasured legacy of leadership
they
have given Disciples. This is a particularly significant time,
as we celebrate a 35-year anniversary in our denominational life;
join in loving memory of Dr. Kenneth Teegarden, who died since
our last Assembly; and unite to honor Dr. Richard Hamm, who is
preparing to leave office after a decade of service in this position.
A clip
from the video is scheduled to be shown at General Assembly in
Charlotte, prior to Dr. Hamm's State of the Church Address Saturday
morning, October 18.
The feature-length
filmed interviews will be made available on videos and DVDs for
the first time at the General Assembly, for purchase at the Florida
Booth in the Exhibit Hall. Attendees of the General Assembly are
invited to a signing of the videos and DVDs by General Ministers
and Presidents at the Assembly. These signings will be held at
General Assembly during the following times and locations:
- Dr. John
Humbert and Dr. William Nichols --at the Florida Reception,
Friday evening, October 17th, 9:30 p.m., in the Convention Center,
Room 207A, and
- Dr. Richard
Hamm--at the Florida Booth in the Exhibit Hall on Saturday afternoon,
October 18th at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Richard Hamm.
Copies of
the feature length "Legacy of Faithful Leadership" may
be purchased at the General Assembly and at Regional events in
Florida for $20. Copies may be ordered and purchased by mail for
$25 (to include cost of shipping); please send name, address,

"Legacy of Faithful Leadership" was created, produced,
and hosted by Rev. Dr. Betsy Steier, Associate Regional Minister
in Florida. Dr. Steier, a graduate of Lexington Theological Seminary,
is a lifelong Disciple. The filming was done by Mr. Jamie Cook,
a professional cameraman, Bethany College graduate, and member
of Bethany Christian Church, Lakeland. Photographs were provided
both by participants and the Disciples of Christ Historical Society.

FL; NBA Cypress Village, Jacksonville, FL; Beneva Christian Church,
Sarasota, FL; Hollis Gardens, Lakeland, FL, and University Christian
Church, Ft. Worth, TX.
