Board affirms ministry of Division of Overseas Ministries president CLEVELAND, Dec. 6, 2002 --In their November meeting, the Division of Overseas Ministries board of directors passed a resolution affirming the ministry of President, Rev. Patricia M. Tucker. Tucker resigned her position effective January 1, 2003. She served as president since January 1, 1994. In the resolution the DOM board states, "Pat has shared God's story of mission to people around the world, demonstrating a passion for justice and a commitment to the mission of the Division of Overseas Ministries. She has been especially sensitive to the needs of Disciple congregations and has, therefore, resourced hands-on mission opportunities for individuals and congregations, and developed a communications ministry which enables members of those congregations to better know and be involved in global mission." The board recognized that Tucker "has reversed the decline of the number of our fully-supported, long-term missionaries and has motivated the significant growth of financial resources for global mission and she has been committed to developing a diverse, multi-racial and multi-cultural home base staff, mission staff, and board of directors." Tucker's ministry "has been instrumental in the development of the Common Global Ministries board and as one of the first two original CGMB co-executives, has lived out her commitment to the success of this unique partnership with the United Church of Christ. She has consistently demonstrated grace and dignity and an unfailing commitment to her ministry while facing difficult challenges." The Division of Overseas Ministries board of directors affirms and celebrates with joy Patricia M. Tucker's leadership, dedication, and faithfulness in her role as president and her tireless efforts on behalf of our brothers and sisters throughout the world. The board expresses to Tucker the gratitude of this part of Christ's Church, asking God's blessings on her life and work in the future. --end-- 02-98 Contact: |
