Southwest Region Mourns the Loss of a Leader

INDIANAPOLIS, October 4, 2002 General minister and president Richard L. Hamm today expressed deep sadness following the death of Ralph E. Glenn regional minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest (Fort Worth, Texas).

"This is, of course, a tremendous loss to everyone who has known and loved Ralph and his family," said Hamm.

Known for the support and encouragement he provided regional colleagues across the denomination, Glenn's pastoral spirit also built strong relationships throughout the Southwest region. Glenn provided important service throughout the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), serving as area minister in Mid-America (Jefferson City, Mo.) as well as vice president of Columbia College (Columbia, Mo.), Phillips University (Enid, Okla.) the Division of Higher Education (St. Louis, Mo.). In a letter to congregations Hamm noted, "Ralph's spiritual leadership, his unflagging energy, his encouragement, optimism and vision, and most of all his deep commitment to the church and to Jesus Christ, our Lord, have blessed us."

The Alabama native served congregations in Austin, Texas, and Kansas City, Mo.  At the time of his death Glenn was beginning his sixth year as regional minister for the largest of the denomination's 33 regions. The Southwest region serves nearly 450 congregations in Texas, New Mexico and parts of Oklahoma and Kansas.

A graduate of Millsaps College, Jackson, Miss., Glenn also earned a master's of divinity degree from Lexington (Ky.) Theological Seminary and had additional graduate work at Indiana University (Bloomington, Ind.) and Phillips Theological Seminary (Enid, Okla.). He was a member at University Christian Church, Fort Worth, Texas. His wife Peggy, daughter, Heather, and son, Clayton, survive him.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, at University Christian Church, Fort Worth. Memorial gifts can be made to the Ralph E. Glenn Memorial Fund c/o the Christian Church Foundation, 130 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46206.
