Investment adviser called as assistant treasurer for Disciples-related Church Extension INDIANAPOLIS, July 2, 2002 -- An ordained Disciples of Christ minister and former missionary with more than a decade of experience in financial and investment planning has been called as assistant treasurer for Church Extension. William J. Singer, Jr., joins Mary S. Beight, assistant treasurer, and Erick D. Reisinger, executive vice president and treasurer, in the Church Extension Financial Resources Leadership Team. "Bill will bring his many gifts and skills to lead Church Extension in the areas of securities compliance and generating new investors and investment vehicles," said James L. Powell, president. "This will continue our ability to respond to the ever-increasing demand for loan funds from new and established congregations." Singer served most recently as president of Florida Financial Institute Inc., in Naples, Fla. The firm is a family owned and operated residential and commercial mortgage brokerage business. An active Disciple at Naples First Christian Church, Singer has provided leadership in congregational and regional settings alike, currently serving on the Florida region's executive committee, among other responsibilities. Singer served as a Disciples missionary teaching English to Chinese students in Nanjing, China from 1986 to 1989. His work also included organizing an English-language political study group for expatriates to foster appreciation for Chinese culture and society. A 1991 graduate of Yale University Divinity School, where he earned his M.Div., Singer graduated from Millsaps College with a religion degree in 1981. Singer and his spouse, Melissa Singer, and their 7-year-old son Anthony William (Willie) Singer, plan to move to Indianapolis in August. Church Extension, based in Indianapolis, is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
