Goal 5) MINISTERIAL NURTURE
To develop an effective system
to nurture and strengthen African Americans in all areas of ministry.
The National Convocation Board of Trustees
has requested that the Associate for Black Ministry in the Division
of Homeland Ministries make recommendations to the Vision Planning
Standing Committee of the Board of Trustees on strategies needed
to implement the objectives associated with this goal.
1. Request the Office of Black Ministry
and Specialized Ministries to compile a resource list of individuals
and agencies that can provide care and counseling for African Americans
in ministry.
2. Request the Office of Black Ministry
to develop an annual event which has nurture as a major focus. Note:
Black Ministers' Retreat.
3. Encourage a nurture component
to be a part of each National Convocation Biennial Session.
4. Develop a congregational model for
the nurture of ministers and share with congregations, Black Church
structures, regions and general units.
5. Affirm the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) Ministerial Code of Ethics, policies regarding
clergy misconduct and harassment. Advocate the code and appropriate
policies as a standard in congregations, Black Church structures,
regions and general units.
