A resolution that combines the Reconciliation Special offering with World Communion Sunday starting in 2008, was adopted at last month's General Assembly. World Communion Sunday, which encourages Christian unity, offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith.
The Reconciliation Special offering is used to help congregations, regions and general Church agencies fund pro-reconciliation/anti-racism initiatives. Both events are traditionally held on the first Sunday in October. The 2008 offering and observance will encourage congregations to give expression to Disciples' quest for Christian unity to seeking God's justice, especially in relation to addressing the sin of racism. In 2007, the Reconciliation Special Offering will be received in congregations on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. To read more about this year's offering go to: www.reconciliationmission.org
