"Disciples Scholar" named to Ecumenical Institute at Bossey

Hollie E. WoodruffIndianapolis - Hollie E. Woodruff, a Masters in Divinity student at Vanderbilt University, has been named by the Board of the Council on Christian Unity as the 2004-2005 "Disciples Scholar" to attend the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey of the World Council of Churches in Celigny, Switzerland. She will participate in the 56th Graduate School Session focused on the theme, "For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory: God's power and human accountability."

In making this announcement, Robert Welsh, president of the Council on Christian Unity, expressed his enthusiasm in this appointment, noting that Hollie Woodruff brings a solid academic background, joined with hands-on ecumenical experience through work with Heifer Project International and in study of religion and culture of Thailand as she participated in a program working with disabled Thai students.

In her application to the Ecumenical Institute, Hollie wrote, "Christianity is not us and God, but the world and God. The church needs to understand itself and its responsibility to the global community."

[The Graduate School Session of the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey takes place each year from October 1-February 25 as a program of the World Council of Churches in partnership with the University of Geneva. Robert Welsh has served as moderator of the Bossey Board since 1997.]
